Last week was we had some great flying weather,5 days in a row, sadly let down by a cold miserable Saturday.
I have had a go at reformatting this letter, the errors build up as it is edited.
Above are some essential links, the photos are posted with no thumbnails just a list in date order, the Gloucester club have a daily diary (blog to the under 60s) but relies on members sending in reports. The SCSA site contains the breaking news spot where the latest soaring news is available. I can not make out the Cotswold club's web site, it seems to be for members only and then there is not much there. Sadly the wacky races were cancelled

New type of cloud? -Asperatus-clouds-seen-world.html

Hot Tip
Fill the outside holes on your servo arms and the inside holes on the control surface arms with superglue and micro balloons, This will stop your model from Gurrating , the unsteady path it would follow if Paul moves your link positions to extreme movements.

Electric Dragon
Ade has converted his F3B Dragon to self launching, This  involved making the sheath nose into hatch access. The cheap Turnygy motor gives a fast nearly vertical climb, handling is good and it carries the extra weight OK. A fine machine for thermalling or sports flying and copes with a bit of wind

Credit crunch HLG
The Credit Crunch has hit me very hard, the worst part is not being able to pronounce the letter R (cwedit cwunch) and the best bit being able to spend most of the day flying, I have been reluctant to buy new models and  was looking round the house for a model to do the glider golf comp with and had nothing suitable, what is needed is a model that launches high, turns well and will cope with the wind.

So I collected some bits, the fuselage off an electric 100" glider and the wings of a an HLG . I quickly made a fin and rudder and used an old tail plane. A snake runs inside  the fuselage to work the rudder and a carbon push  rod is fitted externally to work the elevator. It is not going to win an HLG or a beauty competition but it is a delight to fly, launches well, turns in very tight thermals and copes well with the sometimes difficult conditions at Rodborough. The Kevin Beale fuselage is able to withstand the side arm launches and I haven't knock  the fin off yet in spite of a few missed catches

Next week my credit crunch F5B (Hotliner ?)

Slope & soaring

Monday
A rather strong NE wind, Rodborough was not nice. There was some thermal lift about but it was too windy to take advantage of. Ade tried out his electric Dragon on Minch

Tuesday at Selsley
Some good lift early in the afternoon before the wind went a little easterly, the thermal lift stayed, there was a  good variety, from all over lift to some tight dust devils. My elderly Starlight went well and gave me plenty of thermalling practice. The HLGs did not fly too well, the thermals a little rough and the wind a little too strong for them. Richard flew his Zagi Fixx a park flier version of the Zagi not sold here but popular in the USA
Andy' struggled with100S, the years have added a little weight and a few bits of drag and the model much of the same
Photos of the afternoons flying at http://www.ebley.plus.com/photo/?M=D  dated 2 - june
There was still thermal lift about at 8.30 in the evening

Zaggi Fixx

Wednesday
Minchinhampton common was good, most of the big lift was under rather obvious, under the darker of the clouds

Thursday
The Day started well with buoyant air and smooth thermals. Minchinhampton was hard work in the afternoon, the thermals were hard to spot, they were strong once found, there was a  lack of birds. I also flew in the evening the lift was poor, I only spotted one buzzard and he only swapped trees, still it was a pleasant evening I took my Highlight for a walk around Deverow tump only finding two thermals in over an hour

Friday
Yes 5 days in a row! the weather people are spoiling us.
I tried Frocester in the afternoon, steady slope lift but in the bowl not on the main slope, I changed to Selsley where the northerly breeze was bringing some smooth thermals, plenty of swift/swallows, gulls and a few Buzzards to point out the lift. Graham managed to dodge the lift with his Gentle lady and had radio problems.

Saturday
What a crap day, Rodborough but too strong and a lot of rain

Sunday
Rodborough was good and bad, we were on the SE facing slope with the wind coming slightly from the left. mostly Zagis flown
We had a short power flying session on Minch
Photos at http://www.ebley.plus.com/photo/?M=D dated 6-june

After the storm had passed the wind disappeared to leave some gentle thermal lift
