Photo George's competition diesel model, this got into some strong thermals and did not want to come down

The Hawk 1500 is a 1.5m span ARTF electric glider costing £69 it includes a brushless outrunner motor spinner folding prop and is a pod & boom construction with built up wings. Additional items required 3 mini servos, speed controller, 1000ma 3 cell lipo.

Lithium polymer battery storage
Discharge to 40% capacity about 3.7V and keep in a cool place, If you keep them fully charged they will loose 20% of their capacity per year, partly discharged they loose 4% and only 2% in a fridge. A fully charged battery will loose about 5% of its capacity if kept at 0 degrees centigrade .

On the RCMF forum a guy said he would leave his club because he asked to take an A test. This produced a massive 377 replies
Half were in favour of the A test and suggested you should prove you are safe to fly. The other half were against a compulsory test.
It is handy if you wish to visit other clubs.

Electric Thermal Comp. 200watts/kg. Wednesday 15th July 6.30 for 7.00PM start

This is to be a fun comp and any electric model can be used as allowances are made for power to weight ratio, models will be weighed and motor power measured.

Rules based on a 30sec motor run for a model weighing 1Kg and a motor power of 200watts, models will be weighed and motor power measured and run time will then be calculated (Kg x 1000/Watts x 6 ) for example a model weighing 2Kg & with only a motor power of 250watt would have 48sec motor run.

A 10 minute slot time will start after motor off there will be a 50 point bonus for landing within the landing box & 25 points for a model partly in the box, no bonus applicable for an overfly of the 10 minutes

A glider needs 50 watts per pound to climb comfortably,

Thursday
At Frocester and what a great afternoon warm , sunny and a light breeze,; sadly not enough for the paraglider, although three had got away earlier and were passing the gliding club. I flew my new HLG again made from second hand bits and it was just right for the light slope lift . Brian flew his Coraliss and Graham his Phase 3. Bob's Talon lost out when the lift went light but was thermalling happily before

Friday, strong lift in the morning before the wind picked up, was going well

Saturday
Smooth lift at Frocester in the morning with the wing veering round to Haresfield mid day

Sunday
We flew on Minchinhampton common, the lift was very strong as early as at 8.00AM Self launching gliders, park fliers and John flew his new Dingo
