Late winter newsletter February 2009.

The GMFC is on the move? Well about 300 meters to be precise.

Last Sunday afternoon I attended a meeting with Mike Potter our landlord. Due to changing circumstances he intends to plant a maize crop in the field we currently occupy to feed his cattle during the winter months.

He as offered us the use of the area within the Auto grass racing track in which to cut a strip or circle for our use.

I had looked at the suitability of this area last summer, while it had a lot to offer it also has a few problems.

I won’t go into full details but one advantage is that we should end up flying with our backs to the sun during afternoon and evenings, one draw back of our current location.

The main problem at this time is one of access during periods of wet weather. At the time of writing access is fine for those with 4 X 4’s but there a few soft patches that need attending to.

The GMFC committee met on Tuesday 17th for a briefing and to consider the way ahead. We will be meeting during the next week to plan out a new flying strip.

Unfortunately the time span for the move is quite short, as Mike Potter intends to start ploughing and preparing the field for planting during mid March.

It is quite likely that a temporary strip will be prepared while a permanent strip is prepared. This temporary strip will be suitable only for helicopters, fixed wing models with suitable undercarriages and hand launching.

Please for the next three weeks use the present strip as normal.

You will see a few members on site carrying out some preparatory work this weekend. Please do not attempt to drive across to the Auto grass track until we have a track sorted and a designated parking area sorted out.

This forced move has come out of the blue and has caught us out, however with your support we will keep you flying. The committee does not feel the need to call a EGM at this time. Mainly due to the time scale and that the major decision to move was made for us. The new strip will be laid out I hope with common sense and safety.

There are other issues that arise from this event and it likely there will be an EGM sometime in the spring.

Don’t forget the Indoor flying continues for another six weeks until the end of March.
