Indoors flying Saturday 2nd December.
The
weekend was wet & windy so probably the only flying done by members was indoors. Seven members came along and had a go
and several came to watch.
The
majority of models were park flyer types and most proved a bit to fast and large for indoor uses, although Chris H. with his
"Nighthawk" proved that the robustness of the model could be useful at least he “flew” the evening out.
Star
of the evening was the “Taube” style model, which Ken M. flew superbly on his first indoor outing. The model is
made of some very light pale coloured wood, “balsa” (what's that all about!) with litespan covering. I acquired
the model a few years ago and it has languished in my workshop since then where it had taken on some very nasty warps. In
the preceding week Ken had managed to steam the wings straight and to return it to flying status. His efforts were well
rewarded as it really did fly well, just needs a suitably clad pilot to finish thing off. If anybody knows what this model
is we would be interested to know?
The
most unsuitable model prize had to go to Paul’s “Supermite”, he gave me a go on the sticks, with full bank
and yank I managed three circuits in as about as many seconds before retreating to change trousers.
A
few heli’s also slid around the floor with Mark getting air between the floor and skids.
I
had a dreadful evening proving how much more forgiving EPP is over Depron, many would
say (OK
“all would say”) it’s what you get for being a clever clog’s.
Most people are just happy to land on the floor, you have to except damage while try to perfect wall landings.
Most left with a shopping
list and planning a new model for two weeks time.
Next date Saturday 16th
December. I will also plan for the 30th December if the hall is available.
